Approximately 1200 square feet of retail and shop space in Steamboat features custom-designed steel and MDF casework that displays ski boots and organizes the unique process that Surefoot has developed to customize the fit of ski boots for each client. The store is the latest design in a series of six retail locations designed by the LADG for Surefoot, each of which has used the specific demands of each storeís location in order to generate a clear retail ìcircuitî that uses spatial and visual devices to guide customers through the fitting process and develop a consistent identity for the Surefoot brand.
Unlike previous LADG-designed Surefoot locations, Steamboat uses a single display strategy throughout the store to “wash” the store with a consistent set of effects. Modular MDF boxes line the vertical surfaces of the store, protruding from the walls at various depths to accommodate different types of product display and to change the spatial configuration of the store. The loose stacking of boxes leans and cants away from the wall, pushing product off the wall and deep into the visual field.
Surefootís location in Steamboat is the first in a series of stores to include steel display and seating custom-fabricated by Astro Engineering & Manufacturing. The Minnesota-based company specializes in metal fabrication, with expertise in architectural metal products. The LADG selected Astro as a partnership because of the companyís commitment to a high level of finish, refined detailing, and ability to work with three-dimensional digital models of complex geometries.
